A vehicle including: a gear shift lever; a gear shift lock and a locking element for selectable locking engagement therewith said gear shift lock and locking element being operative to immobilize the gear shift lever; and an ancillary vehicle anti-theft device, said gear shift lock having a lock housing, said locking element being operative for selectable locking engagement with the gear shift lock by insertion of said locking element into the gear shift lock without requiring key operation; said gear shift lock including a locking element orientation sensor for sensing when said locking element is in locking engagement with said gear shift lock: and said ancillary vehicle anti-theft device being characterized in that it is: actuated indirectly other than by manual activation of said anti-theft device; and deactuated automatically by removal of the locking element from locking engagement with the gear shift lock.
