Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 176 words
A sealing device for engaging a gasket in a fluid path to prevent leakage of fluid past said gasket, comprising: a gasket comprising an annular disk formed with a central opening and with an annular flange thicker than said disk, integral with the central opening edge of said disk and extending from both sides of said disk; and a pair of bases, each in the form of an annulus, the circumferences thereof defining cylindrical surfaces, each base having an integral annular ridge on a face surface adjacent its cylindrical surface, at least one of said ridges defining in cross-section an acute angle terminating in a sharp edge formed to penetrate a surface of said gasket; the respective ridges and face surfaces of said bases being directly opposite each other in confronting relationship whereby to define a receptacle for enclosing opposite sides of the flange of said gasket whereby to limit and control the extent of penetration by said ridges while enabling radially outward disk portions of said gasket to extend beyond the circumferences of the bases.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 176 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 32 words
The device of claim 1 in which the face surface of each base adjacent the respective ridges thereof is flat, the flanges of said gasket being formed with opposite flat horizontal surfaces.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
The device of claim 2 in which said gasket is of non-resilient metal, soft enough to be penetrated by the edges of said ridges.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 61 words
The device of claim 1 comprising an opening through one of said bases and a threaded shank on the opposing face of the other of said bases insertible through said base opening whereby progressive closure of said bases toward each other causes progressive piercing by said ridges of said gasket to further extend said radially outward disk portions of said gasket.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
The device of claim 4 in which the thickness of said flange is substantially equal on both sides of said disks.
