Abstract
Abstract A quantitative peak and valley location decoding method for variable length Code 39 and I2/5 that can extract data from profiles that do not resolve the narrow elements is described. The method is applied to a four and eight character Code 39 symbol, and a four digit I2/5 symbol, and is generic for any two-width symbology. The usable depth-of-field performance of a projected aperture scanning device and a video imaging device is shown to be improved by 300 percent using this decode method.
