Abstract
Abstract Method for judging a color difference between a color of an object and a reference color and apparatus therefor in which it is judged at first if the color difference exists within a predetermined range in which it is difficult to determine whether or not the color difference is definite and, if it exists within the predetermined range, the color difference is judged whether it is substantial or nealigible according to rules according to Fuzzy inference.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim
103 words
A method of judging whether the color difference between a color of an object and a reference color is substantial, said method comprising the steps of: conveying the object to a color measurement station, measuring said color of the object, calculating a color difference between said color of the object and said reference color, determining whether or not said color difference is within a predetermined range in which it is difficult to determine if said color difference is definite or negligible, and judging whether or not said color difference is substantial, when it is within said predetermined range, with use of Fuzzy inference.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
103 words
A method of judging whether the color difference between a color of an object and a reference color is substantial, said method comprising the steps of: conveying the object to a color measurement station, measuring said color of the object, calculating a color difference between said color of the object and said reference color, determining whether or not said color difference is within a predetermined range in which it is difficult to determine if said color difference is definite or negligible, and judging whether or not said color difference is substantial, when it is within said predetermined range, with use of Fuzzy inference.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
19 words
The method as claimed in claim 1, in which said predetermined range is determined according to said reference color.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
94 words
The method as claimed in claim 1, in which the center ε r of said predetermined range is determined by Fuzzy inference with rules formed from membership functions μ(L 0 ), μ(a 0 ), μ(b 0 ) and μ(ε r ), said rules being formulated in a general form of {IF μ(L 0 )=Li, μ(a 0 )=ai, μ(b 0 )=bi; THEN μ(ε r )=ε i } i N =1, wherein L 0 , a 0 and b 0 are L, a, b components of said reference color defined in L a b color space.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
29 words
The method as claimed in claim 3, in which the center of said predetermined range is determined for each color component of said reference color in said color space.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
127 words
The method as claimed in claim 4, in which each center of said predetermined range is determined by Fuzzy inference with rules of three kinds formulated in general forms as follows; {IF L 0 * is Li, a 0 * is a i , b 0 * is b i ; THEN ε L is ε Li } i N =1, {IF L 0 * is Li, a 0 * is a i , b 0 * is b i ; THEN ε a is ε ai } i M =1, {IF L 0 * is Li, a 0 * is a i , b 0 * is b i ; THEN ε b is ε bi } i P =1 (N, M, P, are arbitrary integers).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
88 words
The method as claimed in claim 1, in which said Fuzzy inference is made with use of rules formulated in a general form as follows; {IF μ(ΔL) is ΔLi, μ(Δa) is Δai, μ(Δb) is Δbi; THEN μ(ΔE) is ε i } i N =1, wherein μ(X) is a membership function with a variant X, ##EQU3## L, a and b are components of said color of an object in L a b color space and L 0 , a 0 and b 0 are those of said reference color.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
117 words
The method as claimed in claim 1, in which said Fuzzy inference is made with use of rules formulated in general forms as follows; {IF ΔL is ΔLi, ΔE is ΔEi; THEN f is fi} i N =1, {IF Δa is Δai, ΔE is ΔEi; THEN f is fi} i M =1, and {IF Δb is Δbi, ΔE is Δbi; THEN f is fi} i P =1, wherein ##EQU4## L*, a*, b* are components of the color of an object measured in L*a*b* color space, L 0 *, a 0 *, b 0 * are those of the reference color; and f is an index used for judging whether or not there is a substantial color difference.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
11 words
A method as in claim 1, wherein said object is fabric.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
14 words
A method as in claim 8, wherein said fabric is conveyed via conveyor rollers.
Claim 11
