Polymeric blends

Claim 2

A polymeric blend consisting of: a. from about 50 to about 90 parts of a first polymer containing at least about 95 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR33## and less than about 5 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR34## wherein R is H or --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0-7, b. from about 10 to about 50 parts of a second polymer containing from about 25 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR35## wherein n is 3, 4, or 5, and from about 5 to about 75 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR36## where R 2 is CH 1 --C 4 alkyl, and R 3 is H or CH 3 , and wherein the blend is melt-processable.

Claim 3

The polymeric blend of claim 1 wherein R is --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , m is 0, n is 3, and R 2 is --CH 3 .

Claim 4

The polymeric blend of claim 2 wherein the mol percent of units having the structure ##STR37## is greater than about 99%.

Claim 5

The polymeric blend of claim 1 wherein the first polymer further contains units of the structure ##STR38## wherein R 1 is an alkyleneoxy group.

Claim 6

A polymeric blend consisting of: a. a first polymer containing units of the structure ##STR39## about 5 mol percent to about 50 mol percent of units of ##STR40## where R is --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0 to 7, or from about 15 mol percent to about 25 mol percent of units of --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, and (b) a second polymer comprising from about 5 to about 35 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR41## and from about 65 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR42## where R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and wherein the blend is melt-processable.

Claim 7

A polymeric blend consisting of: a. a first polymer containing units of the structure ##STR39## about 5 mol percent to about 50 mol percent of units of ##STR40## where R is --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0 to 7, or from about 15 mol percent to about 25 mol percent of units of --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, and (b) a second polymer comprising from about 5 to about 35 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR41## and from about 65 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR42## where R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and wherein the blend is melt-processable.

Claim 8

The polymeric blend of claim 5 wherein R is --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , m is 0, n is 3, and R 2 is --CH 3 .

Claim 9

The polymeric blend of claim 6 wherein the first polymer further contains units of the structure ##STR43## wherein R 1 is an alkyleneoxy group.

Claim 10

A melt processable polymeric blend comprising: a) from about 50 to about 90 parts of a first polymer containing units of the structure ##STR44## and optionally units of the structure ##STR45## wherein R is H or --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , where m is 0 to 7 and R 1 is an alkyleneoxy group, and R 3 is H or CH 3 ; b. from about 10 to about 50 parts of a second polymer containing from about 5 to about 95 parts of units of the structure ##STR46## wherein n is 2, 3, 4, or 5, R 4 and R 5 may be the same or different and are H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or --C 2 H 4 --(O--C 2 H 4 )-- in a cyclic form, and where R 6 is a urea or cyclic ureido structure of the formula ##STR47## and (units) from about 94 to about 4 parts of units of the structure ##STR48## wherein R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl; and from about 1 to about 10 parts of a copolymerizable unsaturated acid, anhydride or glycidyl-containing ester.

Claim 11

A melt processable polymeric blend comprising: a) from about 50 to about 90 parts of a first polymer containing units of the structure ##STR44## and optionally units of the structure ##STR45## wherein R is H or --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , where m is 0 to 7 and R 1 is an alkyleneoxy group, and R 3 is H or CH 3 ; b. from about 10 to about 50 parts of a second polymer containing from about 5 to about 95 parts of units of the structure ##STR46## wherein n is 2, 3, 4, or 5, R 4 and R 5 may be the same or different and are H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or --C 2 H 4 --(O--C 2 H 4 )-- in a cyclic form, and where R 6 is a urea or cyclic ureido structure of the formula ##STR47## and (units) from about 94 to about 4 parts of units of the structure ##STR48## wherein R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl; and from about 1 to about 10 parts of a copolymerizable unsaturated acid, anhydride or glycidyl-containing ester.

Claim 12

The polymeric blend of claim 8 wherein the alkeneoxy group contains from 1 to about 20 alkeneoxy units and wherein the alkeneoxy chain terminates in hydrogen, a C 1 -C 20 alkyl, C 6 aryl, or C 7 -C 20 alkaryl group.

Claim 13

The polymeric blend of claim 8 comprising: a) from about 70 to about 90 parts of a first polymer wherein the first polymer contains more than about 85 mole percent of units of the structure ##STR49## and less than about 15 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR50## where R is --H or --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , and where R is --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , m is 0; b) from about 10 to about 30 parts of the second polymer containing from about 5 to about 35 parts of units of the structure ##STR51## where n is 3; from about 60 to about 74 parts of units of the structure ##STR52## where R 2 is --CH 3 , and from about 1 to about 5 parts of a copolymerizable unsaturated acid wherein the acid is methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, itaconic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, acryloxypropionic acid, or alpha-methylene-delta-methylglutaric acid.

Claim 14

The blend of claim 10 wherein the acid is methacrylic acid.

Claim 15

The polymeric blend of any of the above claims in the form of a foil, film, fiber, sheet, or packaging material.

Claim 16

The polymeric blend of claim 12 in the form of one or more layers of a multilayer laminate.

Claim 17

A segmented polymer comprising at least one segment of a first polymer containing at least 50 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR53## and optionally units of the structure ##STR54## where R is H or --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , where m is 0 to 7, and where R 3 is H or CH 3 ; and chemically joined thereto at least one segment of a second polymer containing from about 5 to about 95 parts by weight of units of the structure ##STR55## where n is 2, 3, 4, or 5, about 94 to about 4 parts by weight of units of the structure ##STR56## where R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and from about 1 to about 10 parts of units derived from a copolymerizable unsaturated acid.

Claim 18

A segmented polymer comprising at least one segment of a first polymer containing at least 50 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR53## and optionally units of the structure ##STR54## where R is H or --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , where m is 0 to 7, and where R 3 is H or CH 3 ; and chemically joined thereto at least one segment of a second polymer containing from about 5 to about 95 parts by weight of units of the structure ##STR55## where n is 2, 3, 4, or 5, about 94 to about 4 parts by weight of units of the structure ##STR56## where R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and from about 1 to about 10 parts of units derived from a copolymerizable unsaturated acid.

Claim 19

The segmented polymer of claim 14, wherein the at least one first polymer segment is from about 50 to about 90 parts by weight of the segmented copolymer.

Claim 20

The segmented polymer of claim 14 wherein the at least one first polymer segment contains more than about 85 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR57## and less than about 15 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR58## where R is --(--CH 2 ) m --CH 3 , and where m is 0; wherein at least one second polymer segment contains from about 5 to about 35 parts by weight of units of the structure ##STR59## where n is 3, about 60 to about 74 parts by weight of units of the structure ##STR60## where R 2 is --CH 3 , and from about 1 to about 5 parts of units derived from methacrylic acid; and wherein the at least one first polymer segment is from about 70 to about 90 parts by weight of the segmented polymer.

Claim 21

A polymeric blend comprising: a. from about 50 to about 90 parts of a first polymer containing at least about 95 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR61## and less than about 5 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR62## wherein R is H or --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0-7, b. from about 10 to about 50 parts of a second polymer containing from about 25 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR63## wherein R 4 and R 5 may be the same or different and are H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or --C 2 H 4 --(O--C 2 H 4 )-- in a cyclic form, and wherein R 6 is a urea or cyclic ureido structure of the formula ##STR64## and from about 5 to about 75 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR65## where R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and R 3 is H or CH 3 .

Claim 22

A polymeric blend comprising: a. from about 50 to about 90 parts of a first polymer containing at least about 95 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR61## and less than about 5 mol percent of units of the structure ##STR62## wherein R is H or --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0-7, b. from about 10 to about 50 parts of a second polymer containing from about 25 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR63## wherein R 4 and R 5 may be the same or different and are H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or --C 2 H 4 --(O--C 2 H 4 )-- in a cyclic form, and wherein R 6 is a urea or cyclic ureido structure of the formula ##STR64## and from about 5 to about 75 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR65## where R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and R 3 is H or CH 3 .

Claim 23

The blend of claim 17 wherein the blend is melt-processable.

Claim 24

A polymeric blend comprising: a. a first polymer containing units of the structure ##STR66## about 5 mol percent to about 50 mol percent of units of ##STR67## where R is --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0 to 7, or from about 15 mol percent to about 25 mol percent of units of --CH--CHR13 , and (b) a second polymer comprising from about 5 to about 35 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR68## and from about 65 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR69##

Claim 25

A polymeric blend comprising: a. a first polymer containing units of the structure ##STR66## about 5 mol percent to about 50 mol percent of units of ##STR67## where R is --(CH 2 ) m --CH 3 and m is 0 to 7, or from about 15 mol percent to about 25 mol percent of units of --CH--CHR13 , and (b) a second polymer comprising from about 5 to about 35 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR68## and from about 65 to about 95 weight percent of units of the structure ##STR69##

Claim 26

The blend of claim 19 wherein the blend is melt-processable.
