Abstract

Abstract A method of producing a tackless hot melt adhesive package by using a hydrogenated castor oil coating material and a low pressure, melt blow application technique, wherein the hydrogenated castor oil is melt blown through orifices to form droplets which deposit a thin adherent coating in a cavity, then a hot melt adhesive is cast into the cavity.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 157 words
A method of producing a tackless hot melt adhesive package comprising melt blowing molten hydrogenated castor oil through orifices of a heated die plate which is curtained by a stream of hot inert gas to form droplets which deposit a thin, adherent, continuous coating in a preformed support cavity, the molten hydrogenated castor oil being heated to a temperature of about 190° to 300° F., the inert gas being at a temperature of from about 190° to 300° F. and a pressure of from about 10 to 50 psig, the hydrogenated castor oil being at a sufficient flow rate to deposit a coating of about 0.05 to 1% by weight of hydrogenated castor oil based on the weight of the hot melt, and casting a hot melt adhesive into the preformed support cavity, and depositing a similar thin melt blown coating of hydrogenated castor oil on the uncoated adhesive top surface of the formed hot melt package.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
The method of claim 1 wherein air is the inert gas, the hydrogenated castor oil is heated to a temperature of from about 200° to 250° F. and the air pressure is from about 20 to 40 psig.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
The method of claim 2 wherein a film or coating of release agent is applied to the support cavity prior to application of the hydrogenated castor oil.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method of claim 3 wherein the cavity is made of filled propylene and the release agent is silicone.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 4 wherein the hot melt comprises a rubber copolymer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
The method of claim 3 wherein from about 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of hydrogenated castor oil coating is deposited in the cavity and the temperature of the air is from about 200° to 250° F.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
The method of claim 6 wherein the cavity is made of filled polypropylene, the release agent is silicone and the hot melt comprises a rubber copolymer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the adhesive is a pressure sensitive hot melt adhesive.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 38 words
The method of claim 8 wherein air is the inert gas, the hydrogenated castor oil is heated to a temperature of from about 200° to 250° F. and the air pressure is from about 20 to 40 psig.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 27 words
The method of claim 9 wherein a film or coating of release agent is applied to the support cavity prior to application of the hydrogenated castor oil.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 20 words
The method of claim 10 wherein the support cavity is made of filled polypropylene and the release agent is silicone.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 44 words
The method of claim 11 wherein the hot melt comprises a rubber copolymer, from about 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of hydrogenated castor oil coating is deposited in the support cavity and the temperature of the air is from about 200° to 250° F.
