Abstract

Abstract The present invention provides a rear wheel steering system for a vehicle comprising a controller to which driving information is supplied, and a rear wheel steering mechanism driven through a reduction mechanism by a DC electric motor which is rotationally controlled by the controller. The rotational amount of the motor is detected by a motor rotation sensor, and the motor can be stopped by an electromagnetic brake. For accurately stopping the motor at a target rotational position corresponding to a target pivotal angle for the rear wheels, the controller first interrupts the drive current to the motor when the detected rotational amount reaches a first value short of the target rotational position, and then actuates the brake when the detected rotational amount reaches a second value immediately short of the target rotational position.
