Abstract An apatite coated article comprising a substrate having thereon an apatite layer which is formed by flame spraying apatite powder at from about 2,000° to 4,000° C., and a process for producing such an apatite coated article.

A process for producing an apatite coated article comprising a substrate having thereon an apatite layer, said process comprising flame spraying apatite powder at from about 2,000° to 4,000° C. onto said substrate, wherein said flame spraying is high-speed flame spraying using a gas jet wherein the gas jet speed has a Mach number of 2 or more.
