Abstract

Abstract A combination plate and cup holding apparatus, comprising a plate support for supporting a plate, an arcuate retaining member secured to the plate support to receive therein and support the edge of the plate, a cup support secured to the annular retaining member for supporting a cup adjacent the edge of the arcuate retaining member, and a handle secured to the plate support and having one or more finger-grippable members which enable the apparatus to easily be held with one hand by finger-gripping the grippable members while the thumb rests on the edge of the plate, thereby continually urging the plate into the arcuate retaining member.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 176 words
A combination plate and cup holding apparatus, comprising: (a) plate support means for supporting a plate thereon, said plate support means having a platform member defining a plane for directly supporting a portion of the bottom of a plate thereon; (b) an arcuate retaining member secured to said plate support means and adapted to receive therein and support the edge of a plate, said retaining member being of sufficient length to retain the plate on said plate support means; (c) cup support means secured to said retaining member for supporting a cup adjacent the edge of said retaining member; and (d) said platform member having an inner portion and extending inwardly from said retaining member, and handle means secured to the inner portion of said platform member and extending substantially in said plane defined by said platform member to enable said apparatus to be held with a single hand by finger-gripping said handle means while the thumb of the hand rests on the adjacent edge of the plate to retain the plate in said retaining member.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 176 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 15 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said apparatus is integrally formed of plastic material.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said platform member is tapered inwardly away from said retaining member.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said retaining member is of a length that is approximately 10% to 50% of the length of the perimeter of the plate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said retaining member has an elongated wedge shaped opening, whereby the edge of a plate can be forced into said opening and frictionally retained therein.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 5, wherein said wedge shaped opening is shaped as to conform with the edge of said plate, to enable said plate to be snap-fitted and retained therein with a frictional force.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said cup support means includes a ring-shaped member for receiving and supporting a cup therein, and an attachment member for attaching said ring-shaped member to said retaining member.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 23 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein said handle means has a finger-grippable member positioned under said plate and intermediate the edge thereof.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 26 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein said finger-grippable member is a T-shaped member, whereby the T-shaped member may be gripped by at least one finger.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 33 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein said finger-grippable member is an elongated member with at least one hole therein, to enable the elongated member to be gripped by at least one finger.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein said handle means includes a plurality of finger-grippable members, to enable the apparatus to be held by persons with different size hands.
