Abstract

Abstract A film, preferably used as a tubular artificial sausage casing, having a base layer of a material which may be fiber-reinforced, wherein the material includes a mixture of cellulose hydrate and alginic acid and/or alginate. The alginate may be the calcium salt of alginic acid. In addition, a process for producing the film by the viscose process is also described, wherein a mixture of alkaline viscose solution and a soluble salt of alginic acid is coagulated by means of an acidic precipitating fluid.
