Claim 1
Independent Claim
106 words
A method for reclaiming plastic from hydropulper plastic coated waste comprising plastic and cellulosic fiber, said method comprising the steps of: Introducing the plastic coated waste into a size reduction unit and reducing the plastic coated waste to particles having a maximum dimension ranging between about 1 inch and about 4 inches; Separating the plastic and a major portion of the cellulosic fiber by flotation with agitation; Further reducing the particle size of the plastic to a maximum dimension of about 1/2 inch; Dewatering the plastic; Drying the plastic to a moisture content of less than about 10 weight percent; and Rolling the plastic into pellets.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
29 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic coated waste introduced into the size reduction unit comprises from about 6 percent to about 33 percent cellulosic fiber by weight.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic coated waste introduced into the size reduction unit comprises less than about 50 percent water by weight.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method of claim 3 wherein the hydropulper plastic coated waste is provided in bales that are segmented prior to entering the size reduction unit.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic coated waste is introduced into the size reduction unit as an aqueous slurry.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
22 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic is reduced to a maximum dimension of about 1/2 inch in a wet granulator.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
17 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic is dewatered by passing it through an inclined auger.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
30 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic is dried to a moisture content of less than about 10 weight percent by passing it over a fluid bed belt drier.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
28 words
The method of claim 1 comprising the additional step of passing the dried plastic through a cyclone separator to remove an additional portion of the cellulosic fiber therefrom.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
22 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic pellets comprise from about 5 percent to about 10 percent cellulosic fiber by weight.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
18 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic pellets comprise less than about 8 percent moisture by weight.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
10 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the plastic is polyethylene.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
30 words
The method of claim 1, further comprising a method for reclaiming the cellulosic fiber by recovering the cellulosic fiber that is separated from the plastic by the flotation with agitation.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
15 words
The method of claim 13 comprising the additional step of screening the recovered cellulosic fiber.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
14 words
The method claim 14 comprising the additional step of drying the screened cellulosic fiber.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim
15 words
The method of claim 15 comprising the additional step of baling the dried cellulosic fiber.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
37 words
The method of claim 1 comprising the additional step of separating the plastic from a further portion of the cellulosic fiber by flotation subsequent to reducing the particle size to about 1/2 inch but prior to dewatering.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim
26 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the particle size of the plastic is reduced to a maximum dimension of about 1/2 inch in a disk mill.
