Abstract

Abstract An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine has first and second comparators which compare the voltage of a winding of an ignition coil with reference voltages at first and second lengths of time after an ignition signal. The output of the first comparator indicates if the secondary winding of the ignition coil is connected to an open circuit. The output of the second comparator indicates if the secondary winding is shorted to ground. The comparators are connected to an OR gate, and the output of the OR gate is used to indicate misfiring.
