Abstract

Abstract A virtually transparent magnetic layer is included as an additional layer in a color negative film. Information exchange between various users of the film--such as the camera user, the dealer and photofinisher--is carried via plural longitudinal magnetic tracks on the film, each track being dedicated to the writing and reading of a predetermined set of related parameters. The photofinisher-dedicated track locations fill the exposed image area of each frame. The camera-dedicated tracks lie along the edges of the film between the film perforations, the perforations being widely spaced for this purpose. The film finishing process of the invention responds to data on the dedicated magnetic track on the film to govern the film finishing process.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 333 words
A method for making, from individual frames on a roll of photographic film, individual prints on a roll of first time prints and individual prints on a roll of makeover prints, said film having a virtually transparent magnetic layer with a plurality of tracks magnetically recorded in said magnetic layer, each of said tracks being associated with a corresponding one of said frames, said tracks containing magnetically recorded data relating to different data categories, one of said tracks being associated with a first data category indicative of the number of prints made for the corresponding frame, and one of said tracks being associated with a second data category indicative of a makeover print or a discard decision, said method comprising: determining for each of said frames whether there is data in the track associated with said second data category, indicative of a makeover print or a discard decision; if said determining steps finds no indication of a makeover print or discard decision, reading from the track associated with said first data category, the number of prints made for the current frame and advancing said roll of first time prints so as to extract the corresponding number of first time prints therefrom; if said determining step finds an indication of a makeover print for a current one of said frames, reading from the track associated with said first category, the number of prints made for the current frame and advancing said roll of makeover prints so as to extract the corresponding number of makeover prints therefrom; if said determining step finds an indication of a discard decision for a current one of said frames, reading from the track associated with said first category, the number of prints made of the current frame and advancing said roll of first time prints so as to extract the corresponding number of first time prints therefrom and discarding the prints so extracted; and advancing said roll of photographic film by one frame in response to each advancing step.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 129 words
The method of claim 1 further comprising the antecedent steps of: inspecting said first time prints and determining whether each one requires makeover correcting or discarding; visibly marking ones of said first time prints in response to said inspecting and determining step so as to indicate whenever one of said prints requires makeover correcting or discarding; and wherein said method further comprises the concluding steps of: inspecting each corresponding first time print whenever there is an indication of a makeover correction or a discard decision from data read from the track associated with said second data category, and raising an alarm whenever such indication does not coincide with a visible mark on the corresponding one of said first time prints indicating a makeover correction or a discard decision, respectively.
