Abstract

Abstract A thin edge orifice disk is defined as a disk having a thickness to main dimension or diameter ratio of at least 1:80. The manufacturing of an accurately sized orifice in the disk is accomplished by means of a progressive die. One of the stations of the die provides a coining operation on the orifice. Such coining operation is adjustable by means of a micrometer adjustment.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 112 words
A process for manufacturing a thin edge orifice flat disk for fuel injectors comprising the steps of: procuring a strip of thin flat stock; maintaining the flatness of the thin stock; punching in the stock wherein each aperture has a wall equal to the thickness of the thin flat stock; punching in the stock the orifice in the correct relationship to the apertures, wherein each orifice has a wall equal to the thickness of the thin flat stock; coining an edge of the wall of the orifice; punching the outside perimeter of the disk in relationship to the apertures and the orifice; and then removing the disk from the thin flat stock.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 112 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
A process for manufacturing a thin edge orifice flat disk for fuel injectors according to claim 1 wherein the step of coining the edge of the wall of the orifice is by means of a conical shaped punch.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A process for manufacturing a thin edge orifice flat disk for fuel injectors according to claim 1 wherein the length/diameter ratio of said orifice is less than 0.25.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
A process for manufacturing a thin edge orifice flat disk for fuel injection according to claim 1 additionally including the step of shaving from said disk all residual material as a result of the punching steps.
