Abstract
Abstract Agents and methods for the prevention of metastases of malignant tumors use the monosaccharides which are specific for organ cell lectins and/or glycoconjugates containing these monosaccharides, and more specifically, β-D-galactose and/or glycoconjugates containing terminal β-D-galactose moieties.

Method for preventing metastases of malignant tumors in a mammal which comprises the administration of an effective amount of a monosaccharide which is specific for organ cell lectins, wherein the monosaccharide is selected from the group consisting of beta-D-galactose, glycoconjugates of beta-D-galactose, mannose, glycoconjugates of mannose, L-fucose, N-acetyl-glucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine and N-acylneuraminic acid.
