Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 117 words
A method for preparing a highly durable fabric resistant to hard surface abrasion and having good aesthetics comprising subjecting a woven fabric made from yarns of discrete organic staple fibers, said fabric having a fabric tightness greater than 1.0 and a fiber tightness of less than 1.0, said fabric containing from 30 to 92% by weight of low staple fibers having a modulus of less than 100 g/dtex with the warp yarn of said fabric containing at least 15% of organic staple fibers having a modulus greater than 200 g/dtex and at least 30% of low modulus staple fibers, to a shrinking treatment sufficient to raise the fiber tightness of the fabric to a level above 1.0.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 33 words
A method in accordance with claim 23 wherein the fabric comprises at least 30% by weight of shrinkable low modulus fibers and the shrinking treatment is applied to said shrinkable low modulus fibers.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein the low modulus fiber is cotton and the shrinking treatment is mercerization.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A method in accordance with claim 3 wherein the fabric is permitted to relax in the fill direction during mercerization.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method in accordance with claim 3 wherein the fabric is mercerized once, dried, and then mercerized again.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein the low modulus fiber is cotton and the shrinking occurs when the fabric is dried folling the flame-retarding process.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method in accordance with claim 6 wherein the flame-retarding process involves treatment with tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride urea condensate and curing with ammonia.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein the low modulus fiber is a synthetic organic fiber and shrinking is achieved by heating in an autoclave.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 15 words
A method in accordance with claim 8 wherein the low modulus fiber is a polyamide.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein the warp yarn is comprised of an intimate blend of said discrete organic staple fibers.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 31 words
A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein the warp yarn is a sheath/core yarn in which the core comprises said organic staple fibers having a modulus greater than 200 g/dtex.
