Abstract

Abstract An illuminating device with a light source having a longitudinally specular light reflector; and, a light escapement part having a substantially non light absorptive cover. The light transmissivity of the cover an any point on the cover varies as a function of the position of that point, such that the luminance of light escaping through the cover at that point has a selected luminous exitance as a function of the position of that point.
