A bleaching composition, comprising: a peroxide bleaching agent, and an amphoteric organic per acid precursor or its salt having the formula ##STR51## wherein R 1 and R 2 each represents a substituted or unsubstituted, straight chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, alkaryl in which the alkyl has 1 to 24 carbon atoms, or ##STR52## forms a heterocyclic ring having 4 to 6 carbon atoms; R 3 represents a substituted or unsubstituted, straight-chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, alkaryl in which the alkyl group has 1 to 16 carbon atoms, --(C 2 H 4 O) x H in which x is a number of from 1 to 20 or ##STR53## forms a heterocyclic ring having 4 to 6 carbon atoms; Y represents a straight-chain or branch alkylene having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and Z represents SO 3 - , CO 2 - , or a hydrohalide thereof.
