Abstract

Abstract A negative type silver halide photographic material and a process for forming a super high contrast negative image using said material are described. This photographic material comprises a support having provided thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer which has a substantial influence upon image density and at least one light-insensitive hydrophilic colloid layer, wherein a hydrophilic colloid layer other than said silver halide emulsion layer contains a hydrazine derivative in a non-diffusing condition. With this photographic material, a super high contrast negative image can be obtained without decreasing sensitivity and gamma by the use of a developer containing not less than 0.15 mol/liter of sulfite ions and having a pH of from 10.5 to 12.3.
