Abstract
Abstract Water-soluble, cellulose ether polymers having (a) at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl, and methyl radicals and (b) two or more hydrophobic radicals having 6 to 20 carbon atoms, in which one of the hydrophobic radicals has a carbon chain length that is at least two carbon atoms longer than that of another of the hydrophobic radicals, and their use in aqueous protective coatings, such as latex paints, are disclosed.
