Abstract
Abstract An optically active mesomorphic compound is represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R 1 and R 2 are respectively an alkyl group having 1 to 16 carbon atoms, and C* denotes an asymmetric carbon atom. The mesomorphic compound has a fluorine atom directly connected to the asymmetric carbon atom and is effectively used as a liquid crystal component providing an increased spontaneous polarization and an improved responsiveness.
