Abstract
Abstract New molbdenum complexes prepared by reacting (a) a fatty oil, (b) diethanolamine and (c) a molybdenum source are described. The molybdenum complexes impart antifriction and antiwear properties to lubricating compositions and decrease fuel consumption in internal combustion engine using same.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
60 words
An organic molybdenum complex prepared by reacting (a) about 1.0 mole of fatty oil having 12 or more carbon atoms, (b) about 1.0 to 2.5 moles diethanolamine and (c) a molybdenum source sufficient to yield about 0.1 to 6.0 percent of molybdenum based on the weight of the complex, the reaction being carried out at about 70° to 160° C.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
31 words
An organic molybdenum complex according to claim 1 wherein the fatty oil is coconut oil and the molybdenum content is 1.0 to 1.25 percent based on the weight of the complex.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim

A lubricating composition comprising a major amount of a lubricating oil and about 0.01 to 5.0 percent of an organic molybdenum complex prepared by reacting (a) about 1.0 mole of fatty oil having 12 or more carbon atoms, (b) about 1.0 to 2.5 moles diethanolamine and (c) a molybdenum source sufficient to yield about 0.1 to 6.0 percent molybdenum based on the weight of the complex, the reaction being carried out at about 70° to 160° C.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
77 words
A lubricating composition comprising a major amount of a lubricating oil and about 0.01 to 5.0 percent of an organic molybdenum complex prepared by reacting (a) about 1.0 mole of fatty oil having 12 or more carbon atoms, (b) about 1.0 to 2.5 moles diethanolamine and (c) a molybdenum source sufficient to yield about 0.1 to 6.0 percent molybdenum based on the weight of the complex, the reaction being carried out at about 70° to 160° C.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
94 words
A method of reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine which comprises lubricating said engine with a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of a lubricating oil and about 0.01 to 5.0 percent of an organic molybdenum complex prepared by reacting (a) about 1.0 mole of fatty oil having 12 or more carbon atoms, (b) about 1.0 to 2.5 moles diethanolamine and (c) a molybdenum source sufficient to yield about 0.1 to 6.0 percent molybdenum based on the weight of the complex, the reaction being carried out at about 70° to 100° C.
