Abstract

Abstract A cuff for blood pressure measuring apparatus, which is made of flexible material, includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface defines a cylindrical space for a finger to be inserted thereinto, while the outer surface together with the inner surface defines a fluid chamber for applying pressure to the finger. A sensor for detecting pulse wave data can be conveniently place on the inner surface of the cuff and is adapted to detect the reflection of light by an artery. The sensor can comprise of a light-emitting element and a light-sensitive element. The light-emitting element for emitting light at an artery of the finger and the light-sensitive element for receiving the reflected light from the artery are mounted on the inner surface adjacent to each other. A plurality of elements are provided at least either for the light-emitting element or for the light-sensitive element, thereby expanding the detection range of the arterial pulse wave in the finger.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 149 words
A cuff for blood pressure apparatus, which is made of a flexible material and has an inner surface defining a cylindrical shape for a finger to be inserted thereinto and an outer surface together with said inner surface defining a plurality of fluid chambers therebetween which apply pressure to the finger, comprising: a light-emitting element mounted on said inner surface for emitting light at an artery of the finger, said light-emitting element being associated with one of said chambers; and a light-sensitive element mounted on said inner surface adjacent to said light emitting element for receiving the reflected light from said artery, said light-sensitive element being associated with one of said chambers, weherein a plurality of elements are provided at least for the light-emitting element or for the light sensitive element, and wherein said fluid chamber associated with said light-sensitive element is recessed relative to an adjacent fluid chamber.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 149 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
The cuff for blood pressure measuring apparatus as in claim 1, having only one light-emitting element, and wherein a plurality of light-sensitive elements are associated with a plurality of said chambers disposed immediately adjacent opposing sides of said chamber associated with said light-emitting element.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 41 words
The cuff for blood pressure measuring apparatus as in claim 1, wherein a plurality of light-emitting elements are associated with a plurality of said chambers which are alternatingly disposed with a plurality of chambers associated with a plurality of light-sensitive elements.
