Abstract
Abstract In a process of image production by the steps of developing an electrostatic charge pattern with toner particles comprised of coloring matter in a thermoplastic resin binder and dispersed in a carrier liquid and fixing the pattern-wise deposited toner particles while still damp with said carrier liquid on a support by simultaneously subjecting the same to heat and pressure, the toner particles have at 120° C. a melt viscosity when dry of from 500 to 100,000 Pa.s, a mean average diameter of from 0.1 to 5 μm, and a ratio of coloring matter to resin binder of from 1/1 to 1/9 by weight.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
108 words
In a process of image production which comprises the steps of developing an electrostatic charge pattern with toner particles comprised of colouring matter in a thermoplastic resin binder and dispersed in a carrier liquid and fixing of said pattern-wise deposited toner particles while still damp with said carrier liquid on a support by simultaneously subjecting the same to heat and pressure, the improvement wherein said toner particles have at 120° C. a melt viscosity when dry of from 500 to 100,000 Pa.s, a mean average diameter of from 0.1 to 5 μm, and a ratio of colouring matter to resin binder of from 1/1 to 1/9 by weight.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
24 words
Process according to claim 1, wherein the colouring matter is dissolved or dispersed in a binder essentially consisting of at least one thermoplastic polymer.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
41 words
Process according to claim 2, wherein said polymer is selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic polyallyl resins, polyvinyl resins, polyalkylenes, polysiloxane resins, and polyester resins, said resins having a melting temperature in the range of 90° C. to 150° C.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
13 words
Process according to claim 3, wherein the polymer is a styrene-allyl alcohol copolymer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
23 words
Process according to claim 1, wherein the carrier liquid is a hydrocarbon liquid containing from 1 to 5% by volume of silicone oil.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
39 words
Process according to claim 1, wherein for heat-and-pressure fixing the toner image bearing support is conveyed through the nip formed by rollers rotating in opposite direction and at least the roller contacting the toner image contains a heating source.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
14 words
Process according to claim 6, wherein the other roller also contains a heating source.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
24 words
Process according to claim 6, wherein each of said fuser and pressure rollers is provided with a surface coating of polytetrafluoroethylene or silicone rubber.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
18 words
Process according to claim 6, wherein pressure between said rollers is built up by spring or air pressure.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
18 words
Process according to claim 6, wherein the fuser roller is cleaned with a web impregnated with silicone oil.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
23 words
Process according to claim 1, wherein the support carrying the toner image is a paper, resin coated paper, resin film or metal support.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
39 words
A process according to claim 1, wherein at least a substantial part of the carrier liquid is evaporated during the fixing of the damp toner particles and is aspirated away from said support and led to a disposal station.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
28 words
Process according to claim 12, wherein the carrier liquid vapour is removed and kept out of the atmosphere by adsorption and/or absorption or by condensation in a cooler.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
18 words
Process according to claim 1, wherein before being subject to said heat-and-pressure, the damp toner particles are pre-heated.
