Abstract
Abstract A ratchet-type tensioner for maintaining tension with positive backlash in a chain, belt or similar power transmission device wrapped around sprockets or sheaves. A spring-biased plunger protrudes from a housing against the device. A rack formed on the plunger meshes with a ratchet which is pivotally connected to the housing to permit a positive backlash not less than a predetermined minimum.
