Abstract

Abstract A disposable absorbent pad for use as a baby diaper or an adult incontinent brief wherein the backing sheet of the diaper has a pair of continuous bands of adhesive arranged in a stepped generally longitudinal configuration thereon. An elastic band is disposed over the mid-portion of the adhesive being stepped to the side, out of contact with the elastic. When the pads are cut in the assembly process, only that portion of elastic in contact with the adhesive causes the pad to gather. The remaining end portions of the adhesive bands are secured to the intermediate layer of absorbent fluff material, helping it remain in place, and act as a fluid barrier on the sides of the absorbent pad.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 116 words
A disposable absorbent pad for human body fluids comprising: a fluid impervious backing sheet; a top sheet of fluid pervious material; an arrangement of absorbent material layered between said backing sheet and said top sheet for the absorption of human waste fluids received through said top sheet; a pair of continuous bands of adhesive disposed onto said backing sheet, said pair of bands of adhesive having a generally stepped configuration on said backing sheet, where portions of said bands are parallel to one another, and portions of said bands are skewed with respect to one another; and an elastic band disposed onto one portion of each of said continuous bands of adhesive between skewed portions thereof.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 116 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
A disposable absorbent pad as recited in claim 1, wherein each of said adhesive bands comprises a generally intermediate portion and an outer portion at each end thereof, the intermediate and end portions being generally parallel, the intermediate portion of each of said adhesive bands being connected to said end portions, by a skewed section.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A disposable absorbent pad as recited in claim 2, wherein said elastic bands are secured to said backing sheets, only on the intermediate portions of said adhesive bands.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
A disposable absorbent pad as recited in claim 2, wherein said outer end portions of each adhesive band is in securing contact with said absorbent material disposed thereover, for fluid damming of said pad from its side portions thereof.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
A disposable absorbent pad as recited in claim 3, wherein only said elastic band in contact with said intermediate portion of said backing sheet causes said absorbent pad to gather.
