Polyolefin resin composition

Claim 2

A stabilized polyolefin resin composition comprising a polyolefin resin having incorporated therein (a) 0.005-5% by weight of at least one monofunctional or polyfunctional cyanate ester represented by the formula (1) or (2): ##STR4## wherein R and R', which may be the same or different, represents hydrogen, halogen, linear or branched C 1 -C 9 alkyl; A is a C 1 -C 9 alkylene group; a is a number from 0 to 5 wherein e=1 and a number from 2 to 5 where e=0; b=5-a where e=1 and 6-(a+d) where e=0; c=5-d; d is a number from 0 to 5; e is a number 0, 1, 2 or 3; with the proviso that the sum of (a+d) always gives a number from 2 to 5, ##STR5## wherein n is 0 or an integer of 1 or more; and R"s may be the same or different, and each R" is hydrogen or methyl; and wherein of formula (2) there contains 50% by weight or more in total of cyanate esters in which n is an integer of 1 to 3, (b) 0.01-5% by weight of at least one hindered amine ultraviolet absorber and (c) 0.005-2% by weight of at least one hindered phenolic antioxidant.

Claim 3

The composition of claim 1 wherein the amount of component (a) is in the range of 0.02-2% by weight.

Claim 4

The composition of claim 1 wherein said component (a) is selected from the group consisting of bis(4-dicyanatophenyl)-methane, 2,2-bis(4-cyanatophenyl)propane, 2,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-4-cyanatophenyl)propane, 2,2-bis(3,5-dibromo-4-cyanatophenyl) propane and cyanate esters obtained by reacting novalak with a cyanogen halide.

Claim 5

The composition of claim 1 wherein the amount of component (a) is in the range of 0.1-2% by weight.

Claim 6

The composition of claim 1 wherein said component (b) is used in an amount of at least 0.5 times that of said component (a).

Claim 7

The composition of claim 1 wherein said component (b) is obtained by reacting sebacic acid, adipic acid, or hexamethylene diamine or melamine with a piperidine having lower alkyl groups of 1-3 carbon atoms at its 2,6-positions.

Claim 8

The composition of claim 1 wherein the amount of component (c) is in the range of 0.03-0.5% by weight.

Claim 9

A stabilized olefin resin composition comprising a polyolefin resin having incorporated therein (a) 0.005-5% by weight of at least one monofunctional or polyfunctional cyanate ester selected from the group consisting of monocyanato benzene and p-tert.butyl cyanato benzene; monocyanato naphthalene; ,1,3- or 1,4-dicyanato benzene; 1,3,5-tricyanatobenzene; 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,6-, 1,8-, 2,6,- or 2,7-dicyanato nephthalene; 1,3,6-tricyanato naphthalene; 4,4'-dicyanato biphenyl; bis(4-dicyanatophenyl) methane; 2,2-bis(4-cyanatophenyl) propane; 2,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-4-cyanatophenyl) propane; 2,2-bis(3,5-dibromo-4-cyanatophenyl) propane; bis(4-cyanatophenyl) ether; bis(4-cyanatophenyl) thioether; bis(4-cyanatophenyl) sulfone; tris(4-cyanatophenyl) phosphate and cyanate esters obtained by reacting a hydroxy-terminated polycarbonate oligomer with a cyanogen halide and cyanate esters obtained by reacting novolak with a cyanogen halide; (b) 0.01-5% by weight of at least one hindered amine ultraviolet absorber; and (c) 0.005-2% by weight of at least one hindered phenolic antioxidant.

Claim 10

A stabilized olefin resin composition comprising a polyolefin resin having incorporated therein (a) 0.005-5% by weight of at least one monofunctional or polyfunctional cyanate ester selected from the group consisting of monocyanato benzene and p-tert.butyl cyanato benzene; monocyanato naphthalene; ,1,3- or 1,4-dicyanato benzene; 1,3,5-tricyanatobenzene; 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,6-, 1,8-, 2,6,- or 2,7-dicyanato nephthalene; 1,3,6-tricyanato naphthalene; 4,4'-dicyanato biphenyl; bis(4-dicyanatophenyl) methane; 2,2-bis(4-cyanatophenyl) propane; 2,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-4-cyanatophenyl) propane; 2,2-bis(3,5-dibromo-4-cyanatophenyl) propane; bis(4-cyanatophenyl) ether; bis(4-cyanatophenyl) thioether; bis(4-cyanatophenyl) sulfone; tris(4-cyanatophenyl) phosphate and cyanate esters obtained by reacting a hydroxy-terminated polycarbonate oligomer with a cyanogen halide and cyanate esters obtained by reacting novolak with a cyanogen halide; (b) 0.01-5% by weight of at least one hindered amine ultraviolet absorber; and (c) 0.005-2% by weight of at least one hindered phenolic antioxidant.

Claim 11

A composition in accordance with claim 8 wherein said cyanate ester is bis(4-dicyanatophenyl) methane; 2,2-bis(4-cyanatophenyl) propane; 2,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-4-cyanatophenyl) propane or 2,2-bis(3,5-dibromo-4-cyanatophenyl) propane.

Claim 12

The composition of claim 1 wherein said absorber is selected from compounds having at least one group represented by the formulae: ##STR6## wherein each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is independently lower alkyl of 1-3 carbon atoms.

Claim 13

The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition further contains one or more of an organic filler, a metal, a metal oxide and a pigment.
