Abstract
Abstract This invention provides novel polymers which are characterized by a recurring structural unit that contains a pendant quinoid structure and that exhibits nonlinear optical response and are useful in devices such as those used in laser modulation and deflection, frequency conversion, optical communications, integrated circuit fabrication, light valves, and optical switches. The following structure is illustrative of an invention polymer: ##STR1## where m is an integer of at least 3.
