Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
A paint removing composition consisting essentially of (a) at least 20% by weight of at least one C 1 to C 4 dialkyl ester of a C 4 to C 6 aliphatic dibasic acid, (b) 0.1 to 5% by weight of an activator, selected from the group consisting of formic acid, acetic acid and oxalic acid or selected from the group consisting of ammonium hydroxide and monoethanolamine, (c) an effective amount of at least one thickener, (d) an effective amount of a compatible surfactant, and (e) from 1 to 80% by weight of at least one nonhalogen-containing-organic solvent.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 98 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
The composition of claim 1 which consists of the listed components, and in which the nonhalogen-containing-organic solvent is selected from the class consisting of high flash point solvents.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
The composition of claim 2 in which the high flash point solvent is at least one member of the group consisting of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, esters of monoalkyl ether dipropylene glycol, and esters of monoalkyl ether tripropylene glycol.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
The composition of claim 1 in which the nonhalogen solvent is a blend of aromatic hydrocarbons.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
The composition of claim 1 in which the thickener is present in an amount of 0.5 to 10% by weight.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
The composition of claim 5 in which the thickener is selected from the class consisting of ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, organic modified clay, and hydrogenated castor oil.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
The composition of claim 1 in which the surfactant is selected from the class consisting of potassium oleate, dioctyl ester of sodium sulfosuccinic acid, and sodium alkyl napthalene sulfonate.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
The composition of claim 1 in which the activator is ammonium hydroxide, and the nonhalogen-containing-organic solvent is N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 53 words
The composition of claim 1 in which the C 1 to C 4 dialkyl ester of a C 4 to C 6 aliphatic dibasic acid is present in the amount of at least 40% by weight, and the nonhalogen-containing organic solvent is present in the amount of between 1 and 60% by weight.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
The composition of claim 1 in which the nonhalogen-containing-organic solvent is N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and the activator is acetic acid.
