Abstract
Abstract A chemically and physically stable antiplaque dentifrice comprising an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant, a humectant system of glycerin and/or sorbitol and a nonionic gelling agent, prepared by a process which comprises the preparation of two separate gel phases, an oil gel phase and a water gel phase, combining said gel phases into a single gel, and adding a dental abrasive thereto as the final step, or adding said abrasive to the water gel phase prior to the addition of the oil gel phase.

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim
116 words
A chemically and physically stable antiplaque dentifrice comprising an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant, a flavor, a humectant system of glycerin and/or sorbitol, a nonionic gelling agent, and a water insoluble dental abrasive, prepared by the process which comprises the preparation of two separate gel phases, an oil gel phase consisting essentially of the quaternary ammonium compound, the betaine and flavor; and a water gel phase consisting essentially of water, humectant and nonionic gelling agent; combining said two gel phases into a single parent gel phase; and adding a water-insoluble dental abrasive to said combined gel phase, or adding said abrasive to the water gel phase prior to combining with the oil gel phase.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
14 words
The dentifrice according to claim 1, wherein the flavor constitutes about 0.5-2% by weight.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
45 words
The dentifrice in accordance with claim 1, wherein a water-soluble sweetening material and/or a fluorine-containing compound are dissolved in the formula amount of water prior to the addition of the water to the lumectant and gelling agent in the formation of the water gel phase.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
21 words
The dentifrice in accordance with claim 3, wherein said sweetening material is sodium saccharin and said fluorine-containing compound is sodium monofluorophosphate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
14 words
The dentifrice according to claim 4 wherein sodium saccharin constitutes about 0.01-0.5% by weight.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
18 words
The dentifrice according to claim 1, wherein the betaine content constitutes about 3-5% by weight of the formulation.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
12 words
The dentifrice according to claim 6, wherein the betaine is cocoamidopropyl betaine.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
20 words
The dentifrice according to claim 6, wherein the nonionic gelling agent is hydroxyethylcellulose in amounts of about 0.8-1.5% by weight.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
22 words
The dentifrice according to claim 8, wherein the humectant system of glycerin and/or sorbitol constitutes about 18-23% by weight of the composition.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
18 words
The dentifrice according to claim 1, wherein said dental abrasive constitutes about 35-65% by weight of the composition.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
14 words
The dentifrice according to claim 10, wherein the dental abrasive is an alumina-containing abrasive.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
23 words
The dentifrice according to claim 11, wherein the antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound is benzethonium chloride in an amount of about 0.1-1% by weight.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
