Abstract An image forming apparatus with stapling or punching capability, in which the direction of image formed on a sheet is controlled according to the position of stapling or punching, in order to achieve efficient stapling or punching with a stapling or punching device.

An image forming apparatus comprising: means for generating plural image information; means for forming, on a sheet, an image based on the image information generated by said image information generating means; wherein said image forming means has a mode of forming plural images on a side of said sheet; means for applying a post process to the sheet bearing thus formed image; and control means for varying, when said mode is adopted, the positions of plural images to be formed on said sheet according to the position of said post process on the sheet.
