Abstract

Abstract A cylinder pressure sensor output compensation method for an internal combustion engine comprises the steps of determining the occurrence of a non-combustion state of engine operation, detecting the motoring cylinder pressure at this time, calculating a correction value (deviation) by comparing the detected motoring cylinder pressure with a reference value, and using this correction value to correct the sensor output during combustion of the engine. The method can be effectively applied to compensate for errors in sensor output due to variances in sensor characteristics from the time of manufacture or due to degradation through use.
