A lavoratory cleansing block composition consisting essentially of: (a) from about 8% to about 35% by weight of composition of polyethylene glycol distearate having a molecular weight from about 3,000 to about 12,000 and a dissolution time of at least about 5.5 hours according to the Distearate Dissolution Test; and the remainder comprising (b) up to about 10% by weight of composition of glyceryl monostearate; (c) up to about 30% by weight of composition of ethoxylated aliphatic (C 8 -C 20 ) alcohol; (d) up to about 10% by weight of composition of ethoxylated nonylphenol; (e) from about 4% to about 15% by weight of composition of plasticizer; (f) 3 to about 35% by weight of composition of guar gum; (g) up to about 32% by weight of composition of sodium chloride; (h) 0 to about 32% by weight of composition of calcium sulfate; said sodium chloride and calcium sulfate comprising about 20 to 64% by weight of composition; and (i) up to about 15% by weight of composition of disinfecting agents, coloring and/or fragrances.
