Abstract

Abstract Diacetylene segmented copolymers having first and second segments are disclosed. The preferred segmented copolymers of this invention are prepared from three basic monomers: a diisocyanate, a flexible elastomeric prepolymer and a chain extender containing a diacetylene unit. The resultant segmented copolymers exhibit the mechanical properties of elastomers and also many of the novel characteristics of the polydiacetylenes. Also for the first time, a polydiacetylene has been produced which exhibits mechanochromism.
