Abstract

Abstract The surface of a molten polymer is treated with a flame as the polymer is extruded; the polymer is co-calendered with a substrate as a fibrous web immediately downstream from the extruder and the flame. Articles so treated exhibit superior bond strengths. In one embodiment, both the polymer and the web are treated with a flame prior to the step of co-calendering.
