Device for supporting a roll of material to a vehicle

Claim 1

A device for supporting a roll of sheet material on a vehicle for laying the sheet on a surface beneath the vehicle comprising: a. a first member having a lateral dimension, said member being connected to the vehicle by a connection member; b. a first arm including means for tensioning one end portion of the roll of sheet material, means for adjustably connecting said first arm to said first member for movement along said lateral dimension; c. a second arm including means for tensioning the other end portion of the roll of sheet material; and d. a second member connected to said first member, said second member including a portion spaced from said first member and being free from contact with said connection member connecting said first member to the vehicle, said spaced portion of said second member having a lateral dimension substantially parallel to and independent of said first member and said connection member, means for adjustably connecting said second arm to said second member for sliding movement along said lateral dimension of said spaced portion of said second member, said second arm being adjustable in distance from said first arm thereby, said lateral movement of said second arm along said portion of said second member being independent of frictional engagement with said first member, and said lateral movement of said first arm along said first member being independent of frictional engagement with said portion of said second member spaced from said first member.

Claim 2

A device for supporting a roll of sheet material on a vehicle for laying the sheet on a surface beneath the vehicle comprising: a. a first member having a lateral dimension, said member being connected to the vehicle by a connection member; b. a first arm including means for tensioning one end portion of the roll of sheet material, means for adjustably connecting said first arm to said first member for movement along said lateral dimension; c. a second arm including means for tensioning the other end portion of the roll of sheet material; and d. a second member connected to said first member, said second member including a portion spaced from said first member and being free from contact with said connection member connecting said first member to the vehicle, said spaced portion of said second member having a lateral dimension substantially parallel to and independent of said first member and said connection member, means for adjustably connecting said second arm to said second member for sliding movement along said lateral dimension of said spaced portion of said second member, said second arm being adjustable in distance from said first arm thereby, said lateral movement of said second arm along said portion of said second member being independent of frictional engagement with said first member, and said lateral movement of said first arm along said first member being independent of frictional engagement with said portion of said second member spaced from said first member.

Claim 4

A device for supporting a roll sheet material on a vehicle for laying the sheet material on a surface beneath the vehicle, comprising: a. a first arm including a first portion extending transversely in relation to the vehicle, a second portion, and a third portion angularly affixed to said first and second portions of said first arm, said first arm second portion including means for holding one end portion of the roll of sheet material; b. a second arm including means for holding the other end portion of the roll of sheet material; and c. means for supporting said first and second arms in relation to said vehicle, said supporting means including a first member having a transverse dimension relative to the vehicle and connected to the vehicle, and said first portion of said first arm being telescopically moveable on said first member, said first arm third portion extending outwardly along said first member transverse dimension only as far as said first arm second portion, said first arm second portion lying transversely outwardly further than said first arm portion.

Claim 5

A device for supporting a roll sheet material on a vehicle for laying the sheet material on a surface beneath the vehicle, comprising: a. a first arm including a first portion extending transversely in relation to the vehicle, a second portion, and a third portion angularly affixed to said first and second portions of said first arm, said first arm second portion including means for holding one end portion of the roll of sheet material; b. a second arm including means for holding the other end portion of the roll of sheet material; and c. means for supporting said first and second arms in relation to said vehicle, said supporting means including a first member having a transverse dimension relative to the vehicle and connected to the vehicle, and said first portion of said first arm being telescopically moveable on said first member, said first arm third portion extending outwardly along said first member transverse dimension only as far as said first arm second portion, said first arm second portion lying transversely outwardly further than said first arm portion.
