Abstract
Abstract A process for treating the oral cavity to retard attachment of and the accumulation of microorganisms on surfaces of the teeth by blocking adherence of Streptococcus sanguis thereto. Fimbriae normally present on the surface of S. sanguis, fragments of the fimbriae or adherence factors including fimbrial antigen derived therefrom are used to block cell attachment by either competitive inhibition or to elicit an antibody response.
