Abstract
Abstract Compounds having a quinodimethane or a 7,8-dihydroquinodimethane nucleus and four substituted phosphinyl groups at the 7- and 8-positions are disclosed. A process for preparing the specified compounds is also disclosed.

A compound of the formula ##STR16## R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , and R 8 are individually selected from the group consisting of --F, --Cl, --OH, --OSi(CH 3 ) 3 , and --OC z H 2z+1 ; and, taken in combination, R 1 and R 2 , R 3 and R 4 , R 5 and R 6 , and R 7 and R 8 are individually selected from the group consisting of --O(CH 2 ) 2 O-- and --O(CH 2 ) 3 O--; provided that, where any two members of R 1 through R 8 which are attached to the same phosphorus atom are different, said members are --OC z H 2z+1 ; M is Li, Na, K, Rb; m is 0 or 1; provided that, where A is ##STR17## m is 0; n is 0 where m is 1, 2 where m is 0 and A is ##STR18## and 0 or 1 where A is ##STR19## and z is an integer from 2 to 8, inclusive.
