Abstract
Abstract When the disclosed automatic focusing device detects that a computed distance measurement is inaccurate, it shifts the lens a predetermined length to a new position for another measurement. A system senses when the inaccuracy arises from an overly dim scene, for which a distance cannot be properly measured in any case, and inhibits the successive shifts to avoid waste of energy.
