Abstract

Abstract An apparatus controls the operation of a regenerative device for generating a quantity of heat to burn the exhaust particles collected in a trap located in the exhaust conduit of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus is responsive to the pressures on the inlet and outlet sides of the trap for calculating a pressure differential across the trap and a threshold value for comparison therewith as a function of the pressure on the inlet side of the trap. The apparatus operates the regenerative device to regenerate the trap when the pressure differential across the trap reaches the calculated threshold value.
