Abstract

Abstract A process for the recovery of a heavy metal which comprises: bringing a polymer having pendant groups of the formula: --CO--NH--NH--CO--COOM in which M is hydrogen, sodium or potassium, into contact with an aqueous solution containing a heavy metal to have the heavy metal adsorbed by said polymer; and having said heavy metal desorbed from the said polymer.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 58 words
A process for the recovery of a heavy metal which comprises: bringing a polymer having pendant groups of the formula: --CO--NH--NH--CO--COOM in which m is hydrogen, sodium or potassium, into contact with an aqueous solution containing a heavy metal to have the heavy metal adsorbed by said polymer; and having said heavy metal desorbed from the said polymer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 58 words
A process for the recovery of a heavy metal which comprises: bringing a polymer having pendant groups of the formula: --CO--NH--NH--CO--COOM in which m is hydrogen, sodium or potassium, into contact with an aqueous solution containing a heavy metal to have the heavy metal adsorbed by said polymer; and having said heavy metal desorbed from the said polymer.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process for the recovery of a heavy metal claimed in claim 1, in which said polymer is composed of macroreticular structure.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
The process for the recovery of a heavy metal claimed in claim 1, in which said heavy metal is uranium.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 42 words
The process for the recovery of a heavy metal claimed in claim 1, in which said polymer is a polymer prepared by reaction of a polymer having an acid hydrazide group with an acid chloride, or a hydrolyzed product of said polymer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 81 words
The process for the recovery of a heavy metal claimed in claim 4, in which the acid chloride is selected from the group consisting of: (1) an acid chloride having the formula: C1--CO--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --CO--R in which R is chlorine, hydrogen or an alkoxy group containing 1-5 carbon atoms, and n is 0 or 1, provided that R is chlorine or an alkoxy group containing 1-5 carbon atoms in the case of n=0; (2) acetoxyacetic acid chloride; and (3) acetoxysuccinic acid dichloride.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 60 words
The process for the recovery of a heavy metal claimed in claim 1, in which said polymer is a polymer prepared by homopolymerization of a vinyl monomer having the formula: ##STR3## in which R 1 is hydrogen or methyl, and M has the same meaning as defined above, or copolymerization of said vinyl monomer and one or more other monomers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 68 words
The process for the recovery of a heavy metal claimed in claim 1, in which said polymer is a polymer prepared by hydrolysis of a homopolymer of a vinyl monomer having the formula: ##STR4## in which R 1 is hydrogen or methyl, and R 2 is an alkyl group containing 1-18 carbon atoms, or hydrolysis of a copolymer of said vinyl monomer and one or more other monomers.
