Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 131 words
In an improved method for converting a gas comprising methane to higher hydrocarbons which comprises contacting said gas with a contact agent comprising: (a) at least one metal, the oxide of which is reduced and produces higher hydrocarbons and water when contacted with methane at a selected temperature in the range of about 500° to about 1000° C.; and (b) a support associated with said oxide, at conditions to convert said gas to said higher hydrocarbons and water and to reduce said metal oxide, the improvement which comprises employing said contact agent wherein the surface of at least a portion of said support has been sintered at an elevated temperature equal to at least about 0.33 of the normal melting temperature of the material of said support prior to said contacting.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 131 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said support is selected from a group consisting of magnesia, silica, alumina, titania, zirconia, and mixtures thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 2 wherein said support comprises magnesia and is sintered at a temperature of about 1690° and about 5070° F.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 2 wherein said support comprises silica and is sintered at a temperature of about 1040° and about 3110° F.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said reducible oxide is selected from the group consisting of manganese, tin, indium, germanium, antimony, lead, bismuth, and mixtures thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said agent comprises additionally a promoting amount of at least one promoter selected from the group consisting of alkali metals and compounds thereof.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the surface area of said support ranges from about 30 to about 90 square meters per gram.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said support is sintered before said reducible oxide is admixed with said support.
