A method for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy which comprises a cycle consisting of (1) vaporizing, with heating, a mixture selected from the group of (a) 60 to 95% by weight of chlorodifluoromethane and 5 to 40% by weight of difluoroethane; and (b) 3 to 40% by weight of chlorodifluoromethane and 60 to 97% by weight of dichlorotetrafluoroethane; (2) expanding the vapor in an expansion device to produce mechanical energy; and (3) compressing the vapor by a pump and cooling the vapor to condense the vapor.
