Abstract

Abstract An original reading device including a light-receiving element composed of a substrate having in sequence a plurality of underlying electrodes, a photoconductor and a transparent conductive overlying electrode. A signal from the light-receiving element is read by applying a bias voltage to one of the two electrodes and switching the other electrode with an MOS transistor. The potential of the substrate of the MOS transistor is made equal to or lower than a potential corresponding to the negative value of the bias voltage if the MOS transistor is an n-channel MOS transistor, and the substrate potential is made equal to or higher than a potential corresponding to the positive value of the bias voltage if the MOS transistor is a p-channel MOS transistor.
