Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 186 words
An enamel composition comprising a. about from 35 to 75% by weight solids made up of (1) about from 80 to 50% by weight polymer prepared from a monomer blend comprising A. about from 10 to 40 weight percent of a hydroxy alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid wherein the alkyl group has from 2-10 carbon atoms, B. about from 10 to 40% of at least one glycidic monomer selected from the group consisting of glycidyl acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate and allyl glycidyl ether, and C. about from 20 to 80% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer polymerizable with the hydroxyl alkyl ester and the glycidic monomer, and (2) about from 20 to 50% by weight diglycidyl ester of an aliphatic or alicyclic dibasic acid having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, b. about from 60 to 20% by weight of solvent, and c. about from 0.1 to 5.0% by weight crosslinking catalyst, and wherein the resulting polymer has a hydroxyl content of about from 2 to 6% by weight, and the ratio of epoxy to hydroxy units is at least about 0.5:1.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 186 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 11 words
An enamel of claim 1 wherein the diglycidyl ester is ##STR2##
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
An enamel of claim 1 wherein the crosslinking catalyst is a non-basic catalyst.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
An enamel of claim 3 wherein the catalyst is a quaternary salt of a volatile organic acid.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
An enamel of claim 1 further comprising colorant in an amount to provide a ratio of colorant to polymer of about from 0.2:1 to 100:1.
