Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
167 words
A liquid cooling tower comprising: (a) a plurality of concrete legs, each of the legs having a beam portion and pair of foot portions extending downwardly from the ends of the beam portion; (b) a pair of concrete cross members extending between each adjacent pair of legs and attached thereto; (c) porous means for heat/mass exchange supported by the concrete legs and the concrete cross members; (d) a liquid supply pipe extending vertically upwardly through the heat-mass exchange means; (e) liquid distribution means about the heat/mass exchange means and connected to the liquid supply pipe for supplying liquid to the heat/mass exchange means; (f) a fan above the liquid distribution means and supported by the liquid distribution means and the liquid supply pipe for drawing air through the heat/mass exchange means; and (g) side panels formed from fiberglass reinforced polyester resin and supported by said legs and extending upwardly therefrom, the side panels being required to support substantially only their own weight, wind loads, and seismic loads.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
75 words
The cooling tower of claim 1 including a plurality of vertical support columns attached to the concrete legs and extending upwardly therefrom adjacent the side panels, a top wall supported by the vertical columns and attached thereto, the top wall having a fan opening therein, the weight of the top wall being supported by the vertical columns and the concrete legs, the top wall and the vertical columns being formed from fiberglass reinforced polyester resin.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
51 words
The cooling tower of claim 1 in which the beam portions of the concrete legs include ledges which provide horizontal support surfaces, and cast iron support lintels extending horizontally between adjacent pairs of concrete legs and supported by the ledges, the heat/mass exchange means being supported by the cast iron lintels.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
38 words
The cooling tower of claim 1 including a concrete pipe support member extending between a pair of concrete legs and attached thereto, the liquid supply pipe being attached to the concrete pipe support member and being supported thereby.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
58 words
The cooling tower of claim 4 in which the concrete pipe support member is provided with an opening having a vertical axis, the liquid supply pipe comprising a lower portion which is attached to the pipe support member about the opening therein and an upper portion which is attached to the pipe support member about the opening therein.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
32 words
The cooling tower of claim 1 including a liquid distribution box attached to the upper end of the liquid supply pipe, the liquid distribution means being connected to the liquid distribution box.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
103 words
The cooling tower of claim 6 including a beam formed of fiberglass reinforced polyester resin and connected to the top of the liquid distribution box and extending to one of the side walls of the cooling tower, a fan motor supported by the beam, the fan being connected to the beam about the liquid distribution box, and a vertical support column formed of fiberglass reinforced polyester resin and extending along said one side wall and attached to the end of said beam, the weight of the fan and the fan motor being supported by the liquid supply pipe and said vertical support column.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
39 words
The cooling tower of claim 6 including port means within the liquid distribution box for permitting liquid within the liquid distribution box to drain when the liquid reaches a certain level whereby the liquid does not exceed said level.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
39 words
The cooling tower of claim 8 in which the port means comprises a standpipe within the liquid distribution box having an upper end at said level and a lower end communicating with the exterior of the liquid distribution box.
