Abstract

Abstract Adhesive tape useful in supporting an array of parallel optical fibers in an optical transmission cable comprising an adhesive-covered biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film having defined ranges for the proportion of gauche and trans conformations of the ethylene glycol linkages of the polyethylene terephthalate molecule, as measured by infrared spectroscopy, whereby extreme dimensional stability is achieved.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 106 words
Multifiber ribbon useful in optical transmission cables comprising a plurality of parallel polymer-coated optical fibers laminated between two adhesive-covered biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate films, which are less than about 50 micrometers in thickness and exhibit gauche and trans parameters as described herein of between about 0.6 and 0.725 for the gauche parameter and about 3.1 or greater for the trans parameter; the adhesive-covered films shrinking on average less than about 0.2 percent in length upon exposure in an unstressed condition for two hours at 100° C. and less than about 2 percent in length upon exposure in an unstressed condition for one hour at 175° C.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 106 words
