Abstract

Abstract A rear projection television receiver incorporates a screen which includes a prism lens arrangement. The prism lens comprises a number of prism lens elements made up of a plurality of lens surfaces or facets. The individual facets of a given prism lens element form different angles with respect to a vertical plane. The prism lens forms the vertical audience envelope of the screen, which results from a combination of the vertical audience envelope contributed by the differently angled facets, thereby giving a great deal of control over the shape of the envelope.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein said field lens receives light from said video image source and said prism lens is disposed adjacent to said field lens.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein said prism elements comprise a plurality of facets, said facets forming angles with respect to a vertical plane.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 11 words
The arrangement defined in claim 3, wherein said plurality is two.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein said prism elements comprise a plurality of predetermined numbers of prism subelements comprising facets forming respectively different angles with respect to a vertical plane.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein said prism elements have a width of the order of 0.015 inches.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein said focusing lens comprises a plurality of vertically disposed lenticular lens elements.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 30 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein the vertical audience envelope formed by said screen results from a combination of the vertical audience envelopes formed by each of said facets.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 15 words
The arrangement defined in claim 1, wherein said field lens comprises a circular Fresnel lens.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 25 words
