Abstract An electrophoresis medium, comprising a copolymer of acrylamide and an ethylenically unsaturated resin formed by replacing at least some of the hydroxyl hydrogens in a polysaccharide with an ethylenically unsaturated group, is described.

An electrophoretic gel composition comprising polyacrylamide cross-linked with a polysaccharide resin having a weight average molecular weight of from about 5000 to about 10 6 daltons and wherein there has been substituted for at least some of the hydroxyl hydrogens in said resin an ethylenically unsaturated group of from 2 to 12 carbon atoms capable of cross-linking with acrylamide in the presence of a catalyst to form said cross-linked polyacrylamide.
