4-Hydroxyalkyl-substituted 3-pyrazolidinone electron transfer agents

Claim 2

In a photographic assemblage to be processed by an alkaline processing composition, said assemblage comprising: (a) a photosensitive element comprising a support having thereon at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye image-providing material; and (b) a dye image-receiving layer; the improvement wherein said assemblage contains a silver halide electron transfer agent or precursor thereof having the following formula: ##STR12## wherein: n is 1 or 2; R represents hydrogen or a hydrolyzable moiety; R 1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 2 and R 3 each independently represents hydrogen, an alkyl or substituted alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; and R 4 represents hydrogen or one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, methylenedioxy groups or ethylenedioxy groups.

Claim 3

The assemblage of claim 1 which also contains an alkaline processing composition and means containing same for discharge within said assemblage.

Claim 4

The assemblage of claim 2 wherein R is hydrogen and said electron transfer agent is located in said alkaline processing composition.

Claim 5

The assemblage of claim 3 wherein R 1 is methyl and R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen.

Claim 6

The assemblage of claim 3 wherein R 1 is methyl, R 2 is hydrogen, n is 1 and R 3 is methyl or ethyl.

Claim 7

The assemblage of claim 3 wherein R 4 is either methyl or methoxy located in the para-position.

Claim 8

The assemblage of claim 2 wherein: (a) said dye image-receiving layer is located in said photosensitive element between said support and said silver halide emulsion layer; and (b) said assemblage also includes a transparent cover sheet over the layer outermost from said support.

Claim 9

The assemblage of claim 7 wherein said transparent cover sheet is coated with, in sequence, a neutralizing layer and a timing layer.

Claim 10

The assemblage of claim 8 wherein said discharging means is a rupturable container containing said alkaline processing composition and an opacifying agent, said container being so positioned during processing of said assemblage that a compressive force applied to said container will effect a discharge of the container's contents between said transparent sheet and the layer outermost from said support.

Claim 11

The assemblage of claim 2 wherein said support of said photosensitive element is opaque, and said dye image-receiving layer is located on a separate transparent support superposed on the layer outermost from said opaque support.

Claim 12

The assemblage of claim 10 wherein said transparent support has thereon, in sequence, a neutralizing layer, a timing layer and said dye image-receiving layer.

Claim 13

The assemblage of claim 10 wherein said opaque support has thereon, in sequence, a neutralizing layer, a timing layer and said silver halide emulsion layer.

Claim 14

The assemblage of claim 2 wherein said dye image-providing material is a ballasted sulfonamido compound which is alkali-cleavable upon oxidation to release a diffusible color-providing moiety, said compound having the formula: ##STR13## wherein: (a) Col is a dye or dye precursor moiety; (b) Ballast is an organic ballasting radical of such molecular size and configuration as to render said compound nondiffusible in said photosensitive element during development in an alkaline processing composition; (c) G is OR 6 or NHR 7 wherein R 6 is hydrogen or a hydrolyzable moiety and R 7 is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1 to 22 carbon atoms; (d) Y represents the atoms necessary to complete a benzene nucleus, a naphthalene nucleus or a 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring; and (e) m is a positive integer of 1 to 2 and is 2 when G is OR 6 or when R 7 is hydrogen or an alkyl group of less than 8 carbon atoms.

Claim 15

The assemblage of claim 2 wherein said photosensitive element comprises a support having thereon a red-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having a cyan dye image-providing material associated therewith, a green-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having a magenta dye image-providing material associated therewith, and a blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having a yellow dye image-providing material associated therewith.

Claim 16

In an integral photographic assemblage comprising: (a) a photosensitive element comprising a transparent support having thereon the following layers in sequence: a dye image-receiving layer; an alkaline solution-permeable, light-reflective layer; an alkaline solution-permeable, opaque layer; a red-sensitive, negative-working silver halide emulsion layer having a positive-working redox cyan dye-releaser associated therewith; a green-sensitive, negative-working silver halide emulsion layer having a positive-working redox magenta dye-releaser associated therewith; and a blue-sensitive, negative-working silver halide emulsion layer having a positive-working redox yellow dye-releaser associated therewith; (b) a transparent cover sheet superposed over said blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and comprising a transparent support having therein, in sequence, a neutralizing layer and a timing layer; and (c) a rupturable container containing an alkaline processing composition and an opacifying agent, said container being so positioned during processing of said assemblage that a compressive force applied to said container will effect a discharge of the container's contents between said transparent cover sheet and said blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer; the improvement wherein said assemblage contains a silver halide electron transfer agent or precursor thereof having the following formula: ##STR14## wherein: n is 1 or 2; R represents hydrogen or a hydrolyzable moiety; R 1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 2 and R 3 each independently represents hydrogen, an alkyl or substituted alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; and R 4 represents hydrogen or one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, methylenedioxy groups or ethylenedioxy groups.

Claim 17

In an integral photographic assemblage comprising: (a) a photosensitive element comprising a transparent support having thereon the following layers in sequence: a dye image-receiving layer; an alkaline solution-permeable, light-reflective layer; an alkaline solution-permeable, opaque layer; a red-sensitive, negative-working silver halide emulsion layer having a positive-working redox cyan dye-releaser associated therewith; a green-sensitive, negative-working silver halide emulsion layer having a positive-working redox magenta dye-releaser associated therewith; and a blue-sensitive, negative-working silver halide emulsion layer having a positive-working redox yellow dye-releaser associated therewith; (b) a transparent cover sheet superposed over said blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and comprising a transparent support having therein, in sequence, a neutralizing layer and a timing layer; and (c) a rupturable container containing an alkaline processing composition and an opacifying agent, said container being so positioned during processing of said assemblage that a compressive force applied to said container will effect a discharge of the container's contents between said transparent cover sheet and said blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer; the improvement wherein said assemblage contains a silver halide electron transfer agent or precursor thereof having the following formula: ##STR14## wherein: n is 1 or 2; R represents hydrogen or a hydrolyzable moiety; R 1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 2 and R 3 each independently represents hydrogen, an alkyl or substituted alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; and R 4 represents hydrogen or one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, methylenedioxy groups or ethylenedioxy groups.

Claim 18

The assemblage of claim 15 wherein R is hydrogen and said electron transfer agent is located in said alkaline processing composition.

Claim 19

The assemblage of claim 16 wherein R 1 is methyl and R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen.

Claim 20

The assemblage of claim 16 wherein R 1 is methyl, R 2 is hydrogen, n is 1 and R 3 is methyl or ethyl.

Claim 21

The assemblage of claim 16 wherein R 4 is either methyl or methoxy located in the para-position.

Claim 22

In a photographic element comprising a support having thereon at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye image-providing material, the improvement wherein said element contains a silver halide electron transfer agent precursor having the following formula: ##STR15## wherein: n is 1 or 2; R 1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 2 and R 3 each independently represents hydrogen, an alkyl or substituted alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 4 represents hydrogen or one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, methylenedioxy groups or ethylenedioxy groups; and R 5 is a hydrolyzable moiety.

Claim 23

In a photographic element comprising a support having thereon at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye image-providing material, the improvement wherein said element contains a silver halide electron transfer agent precursor having the following formula: ##STR15## wherein: n is 1 or 2; R 1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 2 and R 3 each independently represents hydrogen, an alkyl or substituted alkyl group of 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group of 6 to about 10 carbon atoms; R 4 represents hydrogen or one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, methylenedioxy groups or ethylenedioxy groups; and R 5 is a hydrolyzable moiety.

Claim 24

The photographic element of claim 20 wherein R 1 is methyl and R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen.

Claim 25

The photographic element of claim 20 wherein R 1 is methyl, R 2 is hydrogen, n is 1 and R 3 is methyl or ethyl.

Claim 26

The photographic element of claim 20 wherein R 4 is methyl located in the para-position.

Claim 27

The photographic element of claim 20 which comprises a support having thereon a red-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having a cyan dye image-providing material associated therewith, a green-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having a magenta dye image-providing material associated therewith, and a blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having a yellow dye image-providing material associated therewith.
